Twin Oaks Mitigation Bank

Twin Oaks Mitigation Bank

The Twin Oaks Mitigation Bank provides state UMAM credits within the Reedy Creek, Shingle Creek, Boggy Creek, Lake Hart, Lake Tohopekaliga, Lake Gentry, Lake Hatchineha, and Lake Kissimmee Basins. The service area also includes portions of the Southern St. Johns River (SJRWMD) basin located within the political boundary of the SFWMD; and, areas identified as SJRWMD cumulative impact areas located immediately east and southeast of the bank.

The Twin Oaks Mitigation Bank is located wholly within the Kissimmee Watershed. Thus, the site is an integral part of the headwaters for the Kissimmee River, Lake Okeechobee and the Everglades. The Kissimmee Watershed is widely recognized as a nationally important landscape and area of high biological diversity.

The mitigation bank provides the opportunity to protect important habitat for wildlife and fisheries in the northeast portions of Lake Tohopekaliga. The biological benefits provided to aquatic resources by the conserving the property is significant in many ways and provides a regionally significant habitat for local and migrating waterfowl. When completed, the site will provide over 747 acres of enhanced and restored wetland habitat. The size and location of the site should provide critical and complimentary habitat for many different plant and wildlife forms, including state and federally-listed species.
