Tippen Bay Wetland Mitigation Bank

The Tippen Bay Wetland Mitigation Bank encompasses a 730-acre area within the Peace River Watershed in Desoto County, Florida.

Key restoration and enhancement activities include:

  • Improving hydrologic conditions of converted pasture lands through the installation of structural controls.
  • Enhancing vegetative conditions by eliminating limpograss (Hemarthria altissima).
  • Restoring the hydrology of forested wetlands through the installation of a hardened water control structure and vegetative enhancement via wetland species planting.
  • Enhancing wetland and upland forests by eradicating invasive species.
  • Creating wetlands through the regrading of upland areas.
  • Removing interior fencing and cattle from the bank.

The mitigation bank has the potential to award 224.75 mitigation credits, which include 38.97 UMAM Freshwater Forested credits and 185.78 UMAM Freshwater Herbaceous wetland credits. These credits can be provided to applicants within the Peace River Watershed to compensate for wetland loss.
