Trails End Mitigation Bank
The Trails End Mitigation Bank is approximately 400 acres, northeast of Floral City, FL (Citrus County). The mitigation bans is located within the Withlacoochee River Watershed and will generate a total of 37.57 freshwater herbaceous mitigation credits and 0.91 freshwater forested mitigation credits. All approved credits will be for state use only, to offset Florida wetlands permitted by Southwest Florida Water Management District.
The main goal of the mitigation area is to enhance and restore the existing habitat to historical conditions that existed prior to landscape alterations. Restoration of native vegetation will occur naturally as a more natural prescribed fire regime is restored to the property. Prescribed fire will be applied when there is sufficient vegetative fuels to carry fire. This natural fire regime will increase the biodiversity of the native plant communities in all natural habitat types.
Trails End Mitigation Bank is owned and managed by Southern State Land & Timber which was founded in 1877. The company has prospered throughout the years as a land acquisition and holding company with property interests in Louisiana, Texas & Florida.
