Stormwater Protection in Winter Springs
At The Mitigation Banking Group, we’ve always been committed to protecting Florida’s natural resources. Now, I’m bringing that same passion and expertise to stormwater protection efforts in Winter Springs. As a city commissioner and a long-time advocate for water conservation, I’m proud to lead initiatives that keep our waterways clean, reduce pollution, and educate the community on stormwater management.
Why Stormwater Protection Matters
Stormwater runoff is one of the biggest threats to our lakes, rivers, and wetlands. Every time it rains, water picks up pollutants—oil, fertilizers, pesticides, pet waste, and trash—and carries them into storm drains, which flow directly into our natural waterways without treatment. This pollution can harm wildlife, degrade water quality, and even lead to flooding from clogged drains.
Taking Action in Winter Springs
In partnership with Seminole County’s Watershed Management Division and the SERV Program, I recently led a Tuskawilla Road Cleanup and Storm Drain Marking Event to:
✅ Remove litter from roads and storm drains
✅ Place “No Dumping” markers on stormwater inlets
✅ Raise awareness about stormwater pollution prevention
This initiative aligns with my broader mission in environmental protection, responsible development, and water conservation—not just in mitigation banking but also in my leadership role in Winter Springs.
How You Can Help Protect Our Waterways
Small changes in daily habits can make a big impact:
🌱 Keep yard waste out of storm drains – Compost or bag it instead.
🚗 Properly dispose of motor oil and chemicals – Never pour them into drains.
🐶 Pick up pet waste – It contains bacteria that can contaminate water.
🌿 Use fertilizers and pesticides responsibly – Choose eco-friendly options.
♻️ Reduce, reuse, recycle – Many materials take decades to break down.
If you see illegal dumping, please report it by calling (407) 665-2424.
The Bigger Picture
My work in mitigation banking and environmental protection has always been about balancing conservation with responsible development. Now, by applying this experience to local government initiatives, I’m ensuring that Winter Springs remains a beautiful, thriving, and environmentally responsible community.
Let’s continue working together to protect our waterways. If you have questions about stormwater management, mitigation banking, or environmental restoration, feel free to reach out to me at victoria@mitigationbankinginc.com.
