Alafia River Wetland Mitigation Bank
The Alafia River Wetland Mitigation Bank is 376 acres of protected and restored lands in Polk County, that has Freshwater Forested and Herbaceous Mitigation Credits.
This land is reclaimed mine lands, which includes Bird Branch Creek, a tributary of the North Prong of the Alafia River. The boundary of the mitigation bank was designed to include the channel of Bird Branch Creek and the connected floodplain wetlands, which include a mix of mature forested and floodplain marsh wetlands. Preservation of the mitigation bank will enhance the wetland functions and habitat connectivity through Bird Branch Creek into the North Prong of the Alafia River.
